On 29-30 September 2016 in Warsaw University (Warsaw, Poland) was held 12th International Scientific Conference “Criminalistics and Forensic Expertology: Science, Studies, Practice”. The conference was organized by Polish Forensic Association, Criminalists Association of Lithuania, Warsaw University, and Forensic Science Centre of the Ministry of Justice of Lithuania.
This event was the second part of International Festival of Criminalistics in Warsaw University. International Festival of Criminalistics was devoted to celebration of 60th anniversary of Criminalistics Department of the Faculty of Law and Administration at Warsaw University and 200 Years of the University itself. Festival of Criminalistics also included IX Congress of Department of Criminalistics (28-29 September 2016).
The conference had scientific and gala parts. The scientific part of the conference had four thematic panels, discussions after each of them, lightning-talks, summarizing of the conference. The conference worked in three languages: English, Polish and Russian. About 150 participants from Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Czech Republic, Germany, Estonia, Hungary, Italy, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia and Ukraine attended the conference. Scientific reports with presentations have been published in conference collection, which have included 46 reports.
The conference programme included thematic panels: 1) creation of common European Forensic Science Area; 2) adversarial principle and application of special knowledge in pre-trial investigation and courts; 3) contemporary cross-border crime and ways to fight it; 4) forensic archeology.
Prof. Dr. Habil. Tadeusz Tomaszewski opened 12th conference
The conference was opened by Prof. Dr. Habil. Tadeusz Tomaszewski (Chairman of the scientific committee of the conference, Poland), Prof. Dr. Habil Anna Giza-Poleszczuk (Vice-Rector of Warsaw University, Poland), Prof. Dr. Hendryk Malevski (Vice-Chairman of the scientific committee of the conference, Lithuania).
At the beginning of the conference Prof. Dr. Hendryk Malevski and Prof. Dr. Snieguolė Matulienė from Criminalists Association of Lithuania congratulated Prof. Dr. Habil. Mieczyslaw Goc (Vice-Chairman of the scientific committee of the conference, Poland). Prof. Dr. Rolf Ackermann (Germany) awarded the certificate of Honorary Member of Criminalists Association of Lithuania. Dr. Piotr Woyciechowski (President of the Management Board of Polish Security Printing Works, Poland) as a representative of one of the sponsor of the event said about importance of the regularity of the criminalistic conference in Poland for legal and expert practice. After it Prof. Dr. Rolf Ackermann (Germany) presented his scientific report about problems of Criminalistics in West European traditions.
On first day (29th September) of the conference there was plenary session. This part of the conference was chaired by Prof. Dr. Habil. Tadeusz Tomaszewski (Poland), Prof. Dr. Hendryk Malevski (Lithuania) and Doc. Dr. Gabriele Juodkaitė-Granskienė (Lithuania). The following presentations were made during the plenary session: “Forensic Expertology: Origins, Subject, System, Functions, Development” by Prof. Dr. Habil. Elena Rossinskaya (Russia); “European Vsision of Forensic Science 2020: Prioririties and Potential Obstacles” by Prof. Dr. Vidmantas Egidijus Kurapka, Prof. Dr. Eglė Bilevičiūtė, Prof. Dr. Snieguolė Matulienė, Prof. Dr. Hendryk Malevski (Lithuania); “Ways to Improve Forensic Science” by Prof. Dr. Habil. Tadeusz Tomaszewski (Poland); “Criminalistic tactics as basis for criminal investigation in Slovakia” by Prof. Dr. Józef Metenko (Slovakia); “Role of Criminalistics in Adversarial Trial” by Prof. Dr. Habil. Valery Shepitko (Ukraine); “European Migration Crisis and the Concept of Hate Crimes or Bias-motivated Crimes in the Czech Criminal Law Regulation” by Doc. Dr. Marek Fryštak (Czech Republic). The presentations were followed by the discussions about criminalistic problems, photographing and a coffee break. The first day of the conference continued with a dinner-party.

The second day (30th September) included two sessions: 1) Session “A”: panel I – Creation of Common European Forensic Science Area; panel III – Contemporary Cross-Border Crime and Ways to Fight it; panel IV – Forensic Archeology; 2) Session “B”: panel II/A – Law and Criminalistics; panel II/B – Criminalistics in Theory and Practice; panel II/C – Document Examination.

Dr. Olesia Vaschuk (Ukraine); etc. The presentations were followed by the discussions about problems of Criminalistics. After discussions was break to coffee and lunch.
The most active participants took part in the final discussions of the conference. The conference was closed by summarizing of this event. During the conference closing, participations are decided to hold next соnference “Criminalistics and Forensic Expertology: Science, Studies, Practice” in 2017 in Palanga (Lithuania).
