International scientific-practical conference «10 years of criminal procedure code of the republic of lithuania»

On 8 June 2012 Vilnius University (Vilnius, Lithuania) hosted International scientific-practical conference «10 years of criminal procedure code of the Republic of Lithuania». The conference was organized by Lithuanian Forensic Science Centre, Criminal Justice Department of Faculty of Law in Vilnius University, Supreme Court of Lithuania.

More than 50 participants from Lithuania, Latvia, Russia, Ukraine and other countries attended the conference. The Conference was opened by Doc. Dr. Gintaras Goda, Judge in Supreme Court of Lithuania. There are two opening scientific reports – Statys Šedbaras, Member of Parlament of the Republic of Lithuania, and Virginijus Papirtis, Head of the Lithuanian Bar Association.

The conference worked in two languages: Lithuanian and Russian. On the conference were two session. The first session was chaired by Doc. Dr. Gintaras Goda (Lithuania). The following presentations were made during the first session: introduction by Prof. Habil. Dr. Gintaras Švedas (Lithuania), “Rationality Criterion in Criminal Procedure” by Doc. Dr. Gintaras Goda (Lithuania), “Transformations in Criminal Procedure and Means of Criminalistics Tactic” by Prof. Habil. Dr. Valery Shepitko (Ukraine). The presentations were followed by coffee break.

 

The second session was chaired by Doc. Dr. Gabriele Juodkaite-Granskiene (Lithuania). The following presentation were made during the second session: “Principles of Criminal Procedure: Ellimitation of Regulation Gaps” by Prof. Dr. Rima Ažubalytė (Lithuania), “Criminal Procedure Code Application Problems in Jurispruedence of the Supreme Court of Lithuania” by Prof. Dr. Jonas Prapiestis and Mindaugas Girdauskas (Lithuania), “Fundamental Observations about the Right of Attorney Independently Gather Data Significant for Defense” by Doc. Dr. Remigijus Merkevičius (Lithuania), “Criminal Procedure in the Period of Globalization” by Doc. Dr. Sergei Shoshin (Russia), “Admissibility of Evidence in Lithuanian Criminal Procedure Law: Fundamentals of an Alternative Concept” by Dr. Audrius Juozapavičius (Lithuania). After second session participants had a coffee break. After this period participants took part in the big discussion with speeches of authors of the Code of Criminal Procedure –Doc. Dr. Pranas Kuconis, representative of the prosecutors – Arūnas Meška, Vytautas  Kukaitis, previous deputy Prosecutor General – Prof. Dr. Andrius Nevera.

Presentations by the conference participants were published in the collection of scientific articles “10 years of Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Lithuania” in two chapters: 1) Modern Theory and Practice of Lithuanian Criminal Procedure; 2) Actualities of Foreign Criminal Procedures.
